Abstract

Objective: To identify and analyze the swimming stroke patterns used by swimmers with permanent physical disabilities. Design: Subjects were video taped above- and underwater from frontal and lateral views. A 4-point calibration frame was used as a scaling factor for subsequent biomechanical analysis. Setting: Miscellaneous aquatic facilities. Participants: Swimmers from the following disability categories were examined: amputation, acquired brain injury, hemiplegia, and paraplegia. Interventions: Not applicable.
