Abstract

Purpose: Locally advanced cervical cancer tends to present in patients with lower socio-economic class or who live in rural areas. This is due to reduced access to screening and regular health care visits. The treatment consists of external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and brachytherapy which should be completed in less than eight weeks, as better local tumor control and survival can be expected with relatively shorter treatment courses. Radiation therapy courses are typically completed at a single center but given the distance some patients would have to travel to a center offering, external beam radiation is often delivered at a different institution closer to home.
