Abstract

respectively). The period of PRG use until it was removed was 104 days (cancer) and 117 (ALS). The main reason for removal was death due to disease progression. Weight after 8 weeks was 5% higher in cancer and was almost unchanged in ALS patients (p = 0.043). All cancer patients used enteral nutrition though PRG straight after placement whereas 30.5% ALS patients use only to ensure hydration initially. Conclusion: PRG placement is frequently performed in our centers as a safe and useful technique to guarantee an enteral access for feeding and/or hydration for patients with dysphagia or difficulties to meet nutritional requirements.
