Abstract

from European hospitals. The original forms of our hospital and the feedback from ND’s secretary were used. The results are given as %, compared with the other ND hospitals (% in brackets). Results: Among the participating patients, 33% has been eating as usual last week, 23% less than 1 4 of normal intake and 20% nothing for lunch on ND (compared with 47%, 14% and 16%, respectively). The most important reason why they ate little or nothing for lunch, was they were not hungry, reported by 42% (compared with 28%), and not that the food did not taste well (reported by 3%, compared with 13%). The use of special diets is reported among 9% (compared with 30%). On ND body weight recorded during the actual hospital stay was reported in the journal for 65% of the patients (this % is not available for the other ND hospitals). Conclusion: Compared to other hospitals participating at ND, a higher percentage of our patients reported less eating than normal and last week, confirmed by a smaller lunch intake on ND. The lacking hunger in combination with an infrequent use of special diets, could be due to possible structural challenges that can be solved through the hospital’s Nutritional Strategy. We miss data from the other ND hospitals of the percentage recording body weight, to better interpret the quality of our nutritional practice.
