Abstract

Objective: to assess prevalence of cardiovascular complications and lipid metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) - the bearers of different TaqIB genotypes at polymorphism of the ñholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP), citizens of Saint-Petersburg, Russia.Design and method: 382 T2DM patients and 187 healthy persons were examined. Only T2DM patients with dyslipidemia who previously did not receive statins and other dyslipidemia therapy were included. Medical history of cardiovascular disease (stroke, chronic heart failure, coronary artery disease, arterial hypertension) was analised. The blood lipid profile analysis and molecular genetic research were performed. Results: A distribution of genotypes and alleles of TaqIB polymorphism of the ÑETP gene in T2DM patients did not differ from distribution in healthy persons (Â1Â1 - 29,6% vs 24,3%; Â1Â2 - 50,8% vs 51,9%; Â2Â2 - 19,6% vs 23,8%). Assessment parameters of blood lipid profile in T2DM patients - in the bearers of different TaqIB genotypes at polymorphism of protein gene did not reveal any disparities among groups. B1B1 genotype in T2DM patients was associated with higher risk of stroke, that increased in 1,85 fold (p = 0,012). Figure 1. A distribution of genotype of TagIB polymorphism of the ÑETP gene in T2DM patients with coronary artery disease myocardial infarction, chronic heart failure, arterial hypertension and in T2DM patients without these cardiovascular disease did not differ. Conclusions: A distribution of genotypes and alleles of TaqIB polymorphism of the ÑETP gene in T2DM patients did not differ from these distribution in healthy persons; fasting lipid profiles in the bearers of different genotypes of CETP gene did not differ. B1B1 genotype of CETP in T2DM patients was associated with 1,85 fold higher risk of stroke.
