Abstract
ON January 21, 1951, Mt. Lamington, New Guinea, commenced a series of violently explosive eruptions during which large quantities of steam and ash were ejected. Further explosions occurred on January 27–28 and on February 19, 1951, after which volcanic activity slowly subsided.
