Abstract

Review:Miguel Bernad actually writes about the history of Euro-American drama in a heavily acculturated Philippines. He makes up for the book's modest title by subtitling it A History of Three Decades, 1921-1952. Either title is accurate within the subject's range: no one knowledgeable about Philippine drama can deny that for the mentioned thirty years the vital center of Philippine stagecraft - even that of the short-lived but active pro- fessional stage of World War II - was indeed the Ateneo de Manila, many of whose faculty and alumni actually helped shape Philippine history at the same time.
