Abstract

The epidemiological and clinical analysis of 238 patients treated in ENT Department of the Medical University of Gdansk using the hyperbaric oxygenation (HB) is reported. In all cases HBO therapy was applied in the Department of Hyperbaric Medicine and Sea Rescue. Clinical complications of the HBO therapy occurred in 19 cases (8% of all patients treated with HBO): middle ear barotrauma (6 patients), sinus pain (2 patients) and systemic disorders (11 patients). In 10 cases the occurrence of complications resulted in discontinuation of HBO therapy. Based on publications and own experience the authors present the methodology of medical treatment of the HBO complications.
