Abstract

A batteryless remote control and a corresponding receiver system for home Internet of Things (IoT) applications are proposed. The user board backscatters a carrier signal in accordance with a user’s click pattern. The backscattered signal is captured using a low-end radio-frequency (RF) receiver, and a receiver algorithm detects the pattern and identifies the corresponding user command. Our testbed evaluation demonstrates 100% accuracy at up to 3 m.
