Abstract

This paper deals with the calculation of the power-frequency electric field generated by the extra high voltage transmission lines. When the ground surface under the transmission line is not flat, the traditional charge simulation method cannot be used to calculate the electric field. In the paper, we present the use of surface charge method (SCM) for this purpose. A two-dimensional electric field model is established and calculation equations are derived by using the method. The electric field distribution has been analyzed for three types of ground surface. A comparison of the electric field strength 1.5 m above ground surface is included. The results show that the method is applicable to complex landscapes.
