Abstract

The “Gateway to Business” course for first-year business students was designed to help students acquire the skills necessary to succeed in business school and as professionals. With the trend in recent years for business decisions to be made by work teams, a major focus of the course is on collaborative learning and developing teamwork skills. Exposing students to collaborative learning has the added benefit of helping students to build a sense of community through involvement in shared learning with other first-year business students. This article will focus on the development, implementation, and assessment of a model for improving the efficacy of first-year teams.
