Abstract

Renewable energy sources based distributed generation (DG) are becoming popular due to their environmental, economic and technical benefits. However, DG penetration level in existing electric grid is constrained by their technical issues in power system daily operation and control. In this paper, the impact of aggregated and dispersed PV, wind and hybrid DG penetration in power system transient stability is investigated. DG units are placed at different location as single, multiple or hybrid unit and system response is studied in response to the loss of heavily loaded line following line to ground fault in the network. It is observed that positive and negative impacts of DGs are visible depending on DG type, aggregated or distributed DG connection point and fault location. The simulation is carried out in DigSILENT environment to demonstrate DG penetration level under transient event.
