Abstract

In this paper we describe the interplay between problems arising in large-scale electric power systems and their solution by results and methodologies of control systems. Rather than to be exhaustive, we will attempt to impart a flavor of sane of these large-scale control questions in power systems. Among them, particular attention will be focused on two specific problems for which we describe recently proposed solutions; these are the construction of static equivalents including reactive power diffusion, and the use of a hierarchical concept for static state estimation of large power systems
