Abstract

Power quality is a major concern in power systems especially with the proliferation of non-linear loads in distribution networks. This research aims to assess the harmonic distortion generated by non-linear loads in commercial buildings. The behaviour of individual non-linear loads and that of a combination of loads is assessed to investigate how they affect the power quality of commercial buildings. The assessment includes a laboratory experiment to monitor the harmonic generation of some selected non-linear loads, power quality measurements from a commercial building, and a MATLAB/Simulink simulation.
