Abstract

This paper proposes a communication less control and power management architecture for a hybrid diesel-storage Microgrid. The intrinsic differences between the Diesel Generator (DG) and a Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) interfacing the storage system with the microgrid distribution system imposes the definition of dedicated control and power management strategies in order to guarantee voltage and frequency regulation in islanded operation. For this reason, a dedicated control approach is defined in the present article and supported by some analytical considerations in order to demonstrate the frequency stability and the correct active power sharing among the sources. Finally, the proposed approach is validated by means of detailed simulations carried out using DIgSILENT PowerFactory ® in order to account for a detailed modelling of the system dynamics. The results highlight the good and stable operations of the proposed Microgrid control architecture.
