Abstract

Emergency Power Microgrids are used in Mining operations to supply critical loads. A robust decentralised AC microgrid architecture has been recently proposed by the authors, that provides an automatic and equitable load sharing between distributed generators. This paper focuses on Power Line Communication (PLC) within the decentralised AC microgrid, for added flexibility in case of real-time changes in the microgrid structure and/or distributed generation levels. The proposed PLC is based on using a single and constant PLC frequency. The paper details PLC injection, detection and suppression methods, as well as the overall communication logic. Findings of the paper are confirmed by simulations and experimental results.
