Abstract

The formulae for power flow between three conservatively series coupled oscillators are given. It is shown that the power flow between the three coupled oscillators is different from that between two coupled oscillators, and not only includes direct power flow between the physically coupled oscillators, which exists between two coupled oscillators, but also indirect power flow between the indirectly coupled oscillators that are not physically coupled, which is neglected in classical statistical energy analysis (CSEA) because of the assumption of weak coupling between the coupled oscillators. The indirect power flow is proportional to the differences among the stored energies in the indirectly coupled oscillators. The amplitude of the power flow in different directions is the same and the direction of the power flow is opposite. The relationships between the indirect power flow and the parameters of the oscillators have been investigated by using numerical methods and it is shown that in strong coupling conditions the indirect power flow cannot be neglected.
