Abstract

A very simple and reliable power flow algorithm based on linear perturbation has been presented in this paper. The algorithm has been developed exploiting the decoupling properties of the power flow variables. Power flow variables are taken as polar. The diagonals of the constant sparse matrix have been used to find out the corrections of the power flow quantities. Before starting of the iteration, only once the sparse matrixes have been determined. No complicated constrain satisfaction is used, but simple mathematical computations is involved to develop the method and linear relationship between correction element and corresponding power mismatch has been adopted. The proposed algorithm gives reliable solutions for both standard and ill-conditioned systems. The algorithm can also find solutions if starting values of the power flow variables are generated randomly within a certain range instead of flat start. The algorithm has proved its better efficiency and effectiveness than the popular conventional power flow methods under critical conditions such as high R/X ratios and closest loadability limits.
