Abstract

Most of the Industrial applications require an AC-DC conversion followed by SMPS converters for regulated outputs. Power factor plays a major role in AC-DC conversion since for the same amount of active power transfer, System with low power factor load draws high currents than the system with high power factor load. Hence the power factor of the system has to be maintained close to unity to maximize the active power drawn from the supply mains. It ultimately improves the efficiency and reliability of the converter. In this paper, to achieve this, a combination of rectifier and Boost converter is used. Hardware implementation of 240W boost converter operating in continuous conduction mode to achieve regulated output voltage with improved power factor is discussed.
