Abstract

This work deals with the design and development of a new bridgeless Zeta-SEPIC power factor correction (PFC) converter followed by a flyback converter for EV (Electric Vehicle) battery charging. The proposed PFC converter is the combination of Zeta and SEPIC PFC converters, which operate independently in the respective half cycles, with common input inductor. The converter facilitates an excellent EV charging solution with low cost and improved power density as, comparatively, low number of components conduct during single switching cycle due to elimination of input diode bridge in conventional PFC converter. The input current is observed perfect sinusoidal and mains current THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) is recorded as per the IEC 61000-3-2 standard. Test results on a developed prototype are shown to corroborate the improved power quality based performance of the charger under steady state as well as over wide range of AC mains voltage.
