Abstract

The More Electric Aircraft (MEA) technology is continually evolving and is being widely recognized as the future technology for the aerospace industry. The main objectives are to obtain high power and volume density, high efficiency, reliability, and ability to withstand harsh environments. The pneumatic and hydraulic systems are being replaced by electrical systems. Power Electronics is an enabling technology for the advancement of more electric aircraft systems. This chapter provides a brief description of the electrical power generation, conversion, and distribution in conventional aircrafts and in more electric aircrafts such as Airbus 380 and Boeing 787. More electric architectures, power distribution strategies, more electric engine concepts, and the effect of high voltage operation at high altitudes are also discussed. The More Electric Aircraft concept is being widely recognized as the future technology for the aerospace industry
