Abstract
This article presents a general overview and description of the different types of power converter topologies used in wind energy conversion systems for both onshore and offshore wind turbines. A historical perspective is provided, emphasizing the limitations of older configurations and detailing useful information about the power converter topologies used in modern wind turbines. Given its increasing importance, onshore wind turbines and the transmission of energy to shore is also addressed, providing a comprehensive starting point for the study of these systems.
