Abstract

Floods are one of the most destructive disasters in the world causing significant social and economic damage compared to other natural phenomena. The era of modern technology has had a positive impact on the development of tools that can be used to mitigate disasters. Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) covers many application areas that can be realized through the Internet of Things (IoT). One of the characteristics of the nodes on the WSN is very low energy consumption; the device must operate through battery power. Mobile networks on Internet of Things (IoT) devices require energy savings. The purpose of this study is to apply the NB-lIoT SIM7000C in a flood monitoring system with normal operating and power saving modes, namely Power Saving Mode (PSM) and e-DRX. Then, an evaluation of the performance of the NB-IoT power saving mode was carried out by applying the Power Saving Mode (PSM) and Extended Discontinuous Reception (eDRX) methods as a power saving mechanism for energy consumption and power consumption. The results of this study indicate that there are differences in the results of energy and power consumption in normal operation, PSM and e-DRX. Power consumption is 52% lower on PSM compared to e-DRX because sleep time on PSM is longer than e-DRX but has a consequence on PSM wake-up longer. In conclusion, between PSM and e-DRX mode, PSM mode is better in power consumption.
