Power and Resistance in Post 9/11 Theatre

Abstract

AbstractThree post 9/11 plays of different cultures are selectively chosen for this research, through analyzing the application of the power and resistance theory features on those three plays under study, it will be set clear how each playwright has tackled the 11th of September events according to the encodes of his own culture and ideology. Each application of the four power and resistance theory features on each play will be quite distinctive from the other showing various power social relations. Although it is the same topic of 11th of September events and their atrocities, it all depends on the perspective and the ideology of the theatrical piece’s playwright and his/her culture. For instance, the dominant in one play may be shown as victimized in another and the weak marginalized can be seen as a source of evil and destruction in another. Thus, that’s how the top bottom form of power have been losing its efficiency to be turned into a bottom top one enabling the resistance to take over. Consequently, it all depends on the cultural perspective and distinctive ideology of each playwright from the three ones whose plays are under study.
