Abstract

ABSTRACT A retrograde condensate Frontier reservoir in Wyoming's Powder River Basin is proving amenable to pressure maintenance through injection of dry hydrocarbon gas. The Powell Pressure Maintenance Unit, operated by Woods Petroleum Corporation, is successfully producing substantial condensate and natural gas liquids without the threat of curtailment due to gas market limitations, while providing approximately a three-fold increase in recoverable liquid hydrocarbon reserves through pressure maintenance. Difficulties encountered in unitizing this field during its development were overcome by establishing equitable expansion provisions in the unit agreements. This was made possible by the cooperation of the owners with the state and federal regulatory bodies. Centralized facilities were designed and constructed prior to unitization to maximize liquid recoveries and reduce operating costs.
