Abstract

Sendust Fe-Si-Al ternary alloys have high saturation flux density, low coercive force and high resistivity. Moreover, they are strong against wear, so efforts have been devoted to make use of these alloys as the video-tape-recorder head materials. These alloys are too hard and brittle to be made into thin sheets by rolling and punching. We tried to make Sendust sheets by powder rolling process. Two kinds of powders, atomized or mechanically crushed, were used. Si and Al contents in the former are approximately twice as those in Sendust standard composition, and we added pure iron powders in order to prepare Sendust alloys sheets by powder rolling process more easily. We excuted many experiments to get the optimum condition of powder rolling and sintering. Electrical and mechanical properties of typical samples are given as follows ;μ m=5600; BH c=0.45 Oersted; B r=5600 Gauss; B 10=9700 Gauss; ρ=100 μΩ-cm; Hv=443.
