Abstract

The electromotive force of galvanic cells of Ag(s)|AgI(l) + MeI(l)| I 2 (g, 1 atm), C type has been measured as a function of temperature and molar fraction, for the molten mixtures AgI + LiI, AgI + NaI, AgI + RbI and AgI + CsI. The thermodynamic activity and the thermodynamic excess functions of the silver iodide have been derived from the results. The excess functions have been calculated from Lumsden's theory corrected for a non-random distribution. A satisfactory agreement of experimental and calculated values is found.
