Abstract

Preferable features of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) leads to their increasing penetration in the market. The performance, dependability, and safety of these batteries are highly related to thermal management systems. Many active and passive techniques are employed as the thermal management systems in these batteries to prevent the runaway conditions. A comprehensive review is conducted on the potentials of porous materials for the thermal management of LIBs in this study. The heat generation mechanisms in this type of battery and benefits of cooling systems for this type of batteries are discussed. Based on the current status and available gaps in this field, some suggestions are presented for future investigation.
