Abstract

Most developing nations are gradually recognizing the importance of energy as a factor in economic development. Although Nigeria is an oil-producing country, it still faces several energy problems. These are mainly due to the rapid development which prevailed in the country as a result of the increases in oil price by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries in 1974. In this paper the energy situation in Nigeria is reviewed and the potential uses of solar cell technology as a supplementary energy resource for meeting the country's energy needs are examined.
