Abstract

Fibers and ovules of a cotton cultivar (Gossypium hirsutum L. Trambak-108) were analyzed for growth and free abscisic acid (ABA) content by indirect enzyme immunoassay. An inverse correlation between fiber elongation and ABA content was observed. In the seed, accumulation of ABA was observed during secondary thickening and the maturation phase. The potential role of ABA in fiber and seed development is discussed.
