Abstract

In the last 15 to 20 years, the growth of the five towns in the John Day River valley above Picture Gorge and increasing needs for hay and pasturage have greatly stimulated interest in obtaining water from wells. Up until about 1950* water from streams, springs, and shallow wells in stream gravels was sufficient for local needs.
