Abstract

Potential chemical applications of free electron lasers abound both in a scientific and a technological context. In this review specific spectral regimes of interest are highlighted as representing the areas of greatest need. Of greatest interest are lasers covering the VUV to soft X-ray region, followed by the IR regime 2.4–4.3 μm where high average power is required. Chemical applications would benefit significantly from the availability of FEL devices to the chemistry community.
