Abstract

Abstract : This report summarizes an open literature survey that was conducted to determine the level of risk associated with using Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) Fuels in Naval operations. The findings show the level of risk for hydroperoxide and soluble gum formation in these fuels is not well understood. Thus, specific test methods have been identified for determining if these fuels will meet the Navy's long-term storage requirements. In addition, approved antioxidants formulations for jet fuel (MIL-DTL-5624R) have been recommended as a potential solution in mitigating peroxide and gum formation in ULSD.
