Abstract

Bipolar disorder (BD) is a chronic life-threatening illness that causes untold harm in a sufferer’s life, e.g., 1-in-3 attempt suicide. Current treatments cause unwanted side-effects with novel treatments urgently needed. People with BD use cannabis use far more than the general population, claiming self-medication. Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), is the primary psychoactive component of cannabis and a cannabinoid-type-1 receptor (CB1R) agonist. Determining whether cannabis-related drugs remediate BD-related behaviors is vitally needed.
