Abstract
Getasan Subdistrict with hilly topography with a high altitude and located on the slopes of Mount Merbabu is the main focus of ruminant husbandry in Semarang Regency with production of 100% pigs and 63.60% dairy cows. The farm feed industry center is expected to be a solution to increase the quantity and quality of livestock, especially ruminants in Getasan Subdistrict and Semarang Regency. The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which the opportunity for the establishment of an animal feed industrial center in Getasan Subdistrict, Semarang Regency is seen from the existing potential and limitations. To see the potential and limitations of the study area in the development of animal feed centers, a qualitative approach was used in this study. A phenomenological descriptive methods was used for this study. Collecting data by compared theories with field condition observations and some interviews. Analysis of potential competitive advantage, location analysis and analysis of stages of business development capabilities are carried out to support the achievement of the writing objectives. From the results of the analysis of competitive potential, there are four factors that support the feasibility of developing animal feed industrial centers, namely the level of large regional economic potential; utilization efficiency of regional economic potential; the attractiveness of the region for a large population, especially in agriculture and animal husbandry; attractiveness of areas for businesses that are supported by tourism and accommodation destinations, but the level of innovation in the regional economy is still lacking so it needs the support of third parties and academics. Based on Weber's location theory, Getasan Subdistrict meets the potentials by the factors of raw materials, labor and potential local consumers. It is necessary to divide the analysis of the stages of business development for the animal feed industry center which is divided into four stages, namely: piloting, main business development, network expansion, and business diversification. The gift of nature, the availability of raw materials and a large local market potential are the main strengths.
