Abstract
Abstract Research on true potato seed (TPS) at the International Potato Center (CIP) started in 1977. Based on the advantages offered by growing potatoes from TPS in many potential potato-producing areas within the tropical region, research efforts have concentrated on developing genetic materials and techniques adapted to environmental conditions and cultural methods in those areas. The research has extended rapidly to a great number of cooperating institutions throughout the world and, at present, is being carried out in more than 40 countries within the tropics.
