Abstract

Potato by-products are an important component of cattle feeding operations throughout the Pacific Northwest. In turn, without cattle feeding operations, potato processors would have a major disposal problem with potato waste. It is estimated that 98% of the cattle throughout the Pacific Northwest are being fed potato waste in one form or another. This inexpensive energy source allows cattle feeders in the Pacific Northwest to feed cattle at a competitive price compared with cattle feeders in the Great Plains region.
