Therefore, careful consideration of an individual’s reaction to trauma and adversity continues to be affected by the media, sensationalism, and lack of critical thinking. This article supports Treisman and McHugh, who suggest that further critical thinking is needed about this category.2 The article concludes with a review of a study, which used a before-and-after comparison of subjects’ reactions to a traumatic experience, highlighting premorbid vulnerabilities to trauma.
