Abstract

Affective disorders are common among post-stroke patients and mainly presented with disorders of the depressive spectrum. Mania is observed in less than 1% of patients after stroke. Mania could develop after stroke in any vascular territory, however most commonly - in case of lesion location in the right hemisphere. It is suggested that its development is related to the abnormalites of cortico-striato-thalamo-cortical circuitry. Diagnosis and treatment of post-stroke mania is conducted by general principals.
