Abstract

Summary The experience of PS-wave seismic exploration shows that the stratum has stronger absorption of PS-wave, and it is crucial to improve its resolution. Therefore, adequate attenuation compensation for the PS-wave data is necessary. The conventional PS-wave compensation methods require the P- and S-wave velocities to calculate the P- and S-wave one-way travel time and need the accurate P- and S-wave Q values, which brings difficulties to the compensation. To reduce these difficulties, we use equivalent Q values to equate the P- and S-wave absorption attenuation effects and propose a poststack PS-wave data compensation method based on the inversion strategy. The proposed method can directly use the Q value estimated from the poststack PS-wave record to perform accurate attenuation compensation without the P- and S-wave velocities and Q values, which has considerable practicality. The residual and spectral analysis results compared with the accurate method demonstrate the high accuracy and feasibility of our method.
