Abstract

1. 1. Free amino acid concentration in whole blood, plasma and erythrocytes washed with saline were determined in common carp of an individual weight of 500 g. 2. 2. Glutamate and aspartate have shown the highest concentrations within the erythrocytes. 3. 3. Among these amino acids which have shown the concentration ratio (erythrocyte-plasma) below unity were leucine, valine, histidine and lysine. 4. 4. Post-prandial level has shown the maximum concentration of free amino acids more or less 3 hr after feeding. 5. 5. Several amino acids have shown significant correlations between whole blood and plasma, and whole blood and erythrocyte concentrations. 6. 6. Levels of essential free amino acids in whole blood and plasma were positively correlated with their levels in the diet.
