Abstract

Nationwide, surgical site infections (SSIs) in the obstetric community continue to challenge labor and delivery units. Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that in 2019, 31.7% of births in the United States were cesarean. Research shows that the reported incidence of SSIs in cesarean births is thought to be anywhere from 7% to 10%. An assessment of Kaiser Roseville’s cesarean birth records revealed that approximately 22% (about 122) of births each month were by cesarean.
