Abstract

We report 2 patients with sciatic neuropathy immediately after hemorrhoidectomy and free gracilis muscle transfer operations, respectively. We compare the nerve conduction study and electromyography of the 2 patients and discuss the possible pathogenesis. We emphasize that postoperative sciatic neuropathies may occur in an inappropriate position and a prolonged duration of operation. The nerve conduction study and electromyography are useful in evaluating the severity and prognosis. The best way to avoid this complication is to prevent an inappropriate position and a prolonged duration under proper anesthesia.
