Abstract

Background: Poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PDTC) is an aggressive subtype of thyroid cancer. PDTC accounts for 5% of all thyroid cancers but is responsible for a large proportion of thyroid cancer related deaths. The optimal treatment approach for PDTC is not clear. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of radiotherapy on local recurrence the thyroid bed of PDTC patients with positive resection margins. Additionally, the impact of distant metastasis at diagnosis on overall survival was assessed.
