Abstract

THE FOLLOWING TWO ARTICLES present very recent research on postoperative pain in patients who have undergone a tonsillectomy. Both were published in a well-respected, peer-reviewed, medical periodical, which is the official journal of the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery. Although both reports look at the same general topic, their methods of inquiry differ: the first is a prospective clinical trial, whereas the second is a retrospective chart review. Furthermore, Gao et al are associated with the Department of Anesthesiology at Harbin Medical University in Harbin, China, Bedwell and his team are based in Washington, DC, USA.
