Abstract
Out of a series of 3,808 (31.5.84) Parkinson operations the postoperative and long-term results of 1,561 stereotactic procedures are evaluated. The results are compared, especially in respect to the focus of therapeutic lesion (internal pallidum, oral ventral nuclei, subthalamic zona incerta and radiatio prelemniscalis). In the long range, tremor and rigidity are abolished or markedly improved in more than 80%, the associated Parkinson symptoms in between one and two thirds of cases. In the further development of the diseases the progression of the positive symptoms is blocked as well as the medically induced dyskinesia.The ability for work and better living are achieved in 60% and amelioration of the psychic situation in 30% of the cases. Operative mortality is 0.4% and morbidity is less than 2%.
