Abstract
The effects of 625 r whole-body X irradiation [LD50(30)] on the sex organs of male mice at different time intervals following X irradiation have been studied. As judged from the weight and histology of testes, olive oil therapy accelerated the rate of cellular regeneration and repopulation in the testes of X-irradiated mice when compared with that of the untreated X-irradiated group. From the 15th to the 70th day post-irradiation the testes weight of the oil-treated group was significantly higher than that of the untreated X-irradiated mice. The seminal vesicles of the X-irradiated mice showed a significant decrease in the organ weight when compared with the control value. Some degree of degenerative changes was also seen in the seminal vesicles of the X-irradiated group. Histologically the seminal vesicles of the olive oil treated group practically resembled that of the control group. There are indications that olive oil therapy by restoring the impaired physiological processes of cells, accelerate the r...
