Abstract

AbstractA pollen analytical study of a core sample from the Torihama site in the Sea of Japan area of the Kinki region was carried out. This core, dated by three types of tephra, corresponded to the period between the early and the middle postglacial periods. In the early postglacial period, the cool‐temperate deciduous forest was accompanied by Cryptomeria japonica. In the middle postglacial period, C. japonica forests formed on the lowlands. Lucidophyllous forests developed after the deposition of K‐Ah ash (6300 years BP) in the Sea of Japan area of the Kinki region, which was later than the development of those in the inland and Pacific Ocean areas.
