Abstract

A patient with cirrhosis of the liver developed serious postextraction bleeding as a result of abnormal fibrinolysis. This development is uncommon. Although it is known that liver disease presents a hazard in any surgery, occurrence of significant bleeding that results from tooth extraction is infrequent. Knowledge that abnormal fibrinolysis may complicate surgery will help to prevent or treat postextraction bleeding in patients with liver disease.
