Abstract

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been applied to many long-term monitoring applications like pipeline monitoring and water quality monitoring. However, current WSNs based traditional Geographic Opportunistic Routing (GOR) only focus on the straight regular area, but when comes to the curve strip network, GOR will lose the packet and have a high energy consumption. This paper introduces a robust routing that brings edge detection based region divide and Virtual Sinks to GOR in strip network. Unlike past WSNs routing strategies, this method can cope with the complicated strip network with different curvature in the natural region by dividing them into different sub-regions. As a result, the probability of successful rate is improved up to 91.3%, and the energy consumption rate is reduced up to 3.1%.
